Nothing but pure nature
The Grossarltal has been part of the Hohe Tauern National Park since 1991.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery with waterfalls, gorges, high mountains and the simple, pensive silence and peace in the traffic-free head of the valley. Nature trails lead you through the unspoiled countryside, e.g. to the Haussteingut, one of the oldest farmhouses in the Grossarltal, with parts of the building dating back to around 1650.
In summer, there are weekly guided hikes with the national park ranger, who will tell you many interesting facts about the entire flora and fauna in the Hohe Tauern National Park. On the way there, you will find our rustic ‘Kösslerhaus’, where farmers’ wives regularly bake fresh doughnuts. You can also visit the valley museum in Hüttschlag where an exhibition features life between heaven and earth on the alpine pastures as part of the ‘Auf der Alm – zwischen Himmel und Erde’ exhibition and the national park centre in Mittersill.
